This February, love is in the air for Satomi Fujii better known as Hanon.

During the month, The Dolly Insider Sewing Crush will shine a spotlight on Hanon by sewing 4 projects.

We want to get you excited to sew tiny!

Who is Satomi Fujii:

Satomi Fujii is the doll dress designer behind the brand Hanon located in Osaka Japan.

She has an online shop where she sells limited outfits and sewing kits.

The kits include fabric to complete the outfit.

Satomi has also published a doll sewing book titled, Doll Sewing Book “HANON” which has been translated into multiple languages.

She is currently working on her second book.

This Month’s Sewing Motto:

Progress Over Perfection

Dolly Sewing Crush: Hanon Project #1

This week we are featuring the Lace Dress sewing kit by Hanon.

I love how Hanon’s kits include everything you need to complete the look: instructions, fabric, and snap closures.

There are 40 steps to complete this project.

The directions for the Lace Dress are written in English and it also includes images so you can visually see the step by step instructions.

Your Layout For Sewing Success

Steps 1-15 Creating The Bodice

It may seem like there’s a lot of steps to complete the bodice but they went by quickly.

The steps involved applying fray check along the edges and sewing the lace to the bodice.

Then sewing the shoulder seams, attaching the lining and sewing the side seams.

Steps 16-30 Skirt Lace & Gathers

This section is about adding lace to the hem & other areas of the skirt, making a gathered waist and attaching the skirt to the bodice.

The last step in this section is sewing the skirt close.

I have a difficult time making sure my gathers are evenly spaced, creating gathers is a skill I want to improve.

Steps 31-40 Finishing the Lace Dress

These steps include hand stitching a strip of lace to the waist, creating and hand sewing crumpled fabric along the neckline and sewing snap closures to the dress.

Final Thoughts:

Completing this dress made us feel so accomplished.

It was our 1st time layering lace onto fabric to create a new look and it was amazing to see how lace can quickly transform an outfit.

We love the romantic style of the dress and are beyond happy with the result and can’t stop gazing at it.

The beauty of the Lace Dress kit is that it looks complex but it’s actually quite simple.

I will have to look at the Hanon patterns. I think it would be fun to make Mori Girl outfits for my dolls!

Oh, Hanon! What a beautiful design, very elegant with the lace details. 40 steps sounds like a lot, but the result is worth it!

After you linked to a Hanon tutorial a few weeks ago, I’ve really enjoyed watching her videos. Looking forward to seeing what other Hanon designs you make!

So gentle and romantic! And it looks amazing on both Blythe and Pullip! I’m tempted to get the book… And Midnight Velvet…

The dress is pretty, but it may be worth knowing that it’s not in the book (which I have and which is good). Just so that nobody gets it for that and is disappointed.

        Hi Ariadne,

        Sorry for the confusion.

Hanon’s book is great with many projects waiting to be sewn.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment!

      Hey Neon,

Oh, Midnight Velvet is very flattered by your comment.

Sorry for the confusion, the Lace Dress pattern isn’t in the book, it’s actually a Hanon kit which includes the pattern, instructions and material.

Thanks for chatting with us about Hanon Project 1!

Oh, no worries, I wasn’t confused, I just prefer to pick my fabrics in person, so I’m not into kits, but I like Hanon’s style, so that’s why I want to check the book 😉
