I loved dolls as a kid but had a long period of time that dolls were not in my life. As an adult my hobby was sewing but I fell in a sewing slump. Some of my sewing friends were sewing for dolls and I thought joining in would be a fun way to get excited about sewing again. It was but I also got really interested in collecting dolls. I like having a variety of dolls to create for, 1/6 scale and smaller.
Hiya Sunshine,
No way, now who would’ve thought a sewing slump would turn into a love for sewing for and collecting dolls.
That’s such a cool story 😊

I had some dolls as a kid, but I moved away from them as I grew up because… well, outside pressure saying that I was now ‘too old’ for such things. From there I got into action figures, but always found myself looking back at dolls because they just looked nice to me.
When Monster High came out, it was harder to resist the call, and I got my first doll since I was a kid. It was a Frankie, actually, so I’m always quite fond of the character as a result. My first Azone doll was actually a gift from my parents for my birthday – they had found it on eBay and thought it suited my tastes perfectly.
Never looked back since then.
Aww what a lovely story Z!
Goes to show that listening to oneself can unlock wonderful things
Oh and that was very kind of your parents to purchase you your 1st Azone doll. 💕

I never stopped loving dolls, but I wasn’t collecting them as a teen, because I had the “I’m too old for dolls” mindset because of my classmates and the society standards in general. I wish I talked to my parents about it, they would support me and probably tell me that I can enjoy dolls even if I’m no longer playing with them in the traditional sense. They always supported my hobbies.
But I still loved dolls, so the purely external reasons not to have them couldn’t persist forever (and I kept oogling Tonner and Marina Bychkova dolls online), and when I successfully passed all my first-semester exams at uni, which also coincided with my birthday, I treated myself to a barbie two-pack, and the curse was broken. I no longer have those barbies, but they do deserve the credit for launching my adult doll collection.
For the first eight years of collecting I was content with playline dolls, Monster High and Ever After High being my favourites, then I got into Pullips, and two years later, I got a Smart Doll, a BJD and two Azone dolls in the span of six months, and that was a turning point in my collecting career, and I’m such a happy collector now \(^o^)/
Such a long-winded answer to such a simple question…
What a story Neon!
Who would’ve thought purchasing two-pack Barbies would lend to a varied doll collection.
We’re so glad the curse was broken! 😊
