Mon-DOLL Makes Week 52: Weaving Comfort!

In an attempt to use up some scrap fabric we’ve accumulated, we began the process of making a braided fabric rug.

This project is a great fabric stash buster. We were surprised by how much material we used.

Unfortunately, we underestimated the time it would take to make a 12-inch round rug… in hindsight, the quilt probably would’ve been a quicker project to tackle.

There were times when we felt like giving up, but thankfully, Nina-chan was there to support and encourage us along the way.

She was instrumental in keeping us on track, and thanks to her help, we were able to turn 200 feet of fabric into a rug just in time for the final Mon-DOLL Make of the year.

Nina-chan in a sea of braided fabric!

The rug turned out better than we expected.

The various colors of fabric woven together created such a stunning scrappy rug.

We had an idea who we wanted to gift the rug to but left it up to Nina-chan because she was a huge part of its creation.

With no hesitation, Nina-chan picked Anna for the rug and we wholeheartedly agreed.

Anna’s creativity has been an inspiration to her siblings, friends, and us this year, sparking a newfound love for crafting and creativity within us all.

We knew she would appreciate the hard work that went into creating the braided rug.

Plus, she loves dolly room decor as much as we do!

Omgosh, it’s so beautiful! Thank you!

Anna enjoys spending time on her braided rug!

Hmm, I wonder what my next crafty project will be?

We often find her reading books surrounded by her favorite dolly room decor . . .

Or simply relaxing and taking a nap.

zZZ 😴

The rug is just another piece of the puzzle that makes her room a comforting and relaxing space.

Maybe that’s why Hina-chan always appears in the room whenever Anna is napping.

Hina-chan: Are you still sleeping?
Hina-chan: I want to join nap time too!

A few days ago, Anna welcomed Hina-chan & Nina-chan into her room to introduce them to her last 2023 creation!

They were wowed by her Cinnamon Spice Pal and begged Anna to make more felt projects for them to enjoy (will Anna take up the challenge . . .?)

Hina-chan & Nina-chan: Oooh pretty!

We’re sending you warm holiday wishes and positive dolly vibes that you have a Doll-tastic 2024!

Over To You!

    1. Hihi River,

      Thank you! 😊

I now understand the saying “Teamwork Makes The Dream Work”

Nina-chan helped us out a lot

  2. Carol Garcia Pere

I love how it turned out, a pity that it took longer than expected to finish it.
My next dolly makes is a miniature quilt, I even attended a workshop at a dollhouse miniatures fair to learn how to make patchwork projects for miniatures. This project advances very slowly but I’m sure it will turn out so cute.

    1. Ooooh attending a dollhouse miniatures workshop sounds like so much fun Carol!

I would love to visit one one day.

I bet you walked away with lots of inspo.

Definitely keep us posted on your miniature quilt project, it sounds so adorable!

I’m sure your dolls will appreciate the love that went into making it 💕

  3. Such a lovely, colorful rug!

I always wanted to make a human size braided rug but that turned out to be way too big a project for me… a doll sized rug sounds much more manageable!

    1. Thanks Sunshine! 😊

Oh wow making a human sized rug sounds like quite the project.

You totally make a rug for your dolls, we were surprised how therapeutic the process of braiding the rug was.

  4. This is such a fun scraps project! The rug looks lovely, and seems to be a great photo prop!

I usually shred my cabbage (I tend to have really small pieces of it anyway) and save it up for stuffing purposes.

    1. So true Neon, I didn’t think that an item like a rug could make the scene so much more cozy and fun. 😀

Is cabbage another term for scraps?

Thanks so much for leaving a comment!
