Getting your doll ready for the holidays can be as simple as adding a Santa hat.
In this sewing tutorial, I’m making the Jolly Santa Hat for Blythe-sized dolls.
It’s a simple project made with just two pattern pieces: the Hat and the Trim.
And there’s a little bonus.
Make the Jolly Santa Hat With Me
For my Santa Hat, I went with the classic holiday look: red fabric for the Hat and white minky for the Trim.
In the video, I take you through the project from preparing the trim to adding the pom-pom at the end.
You’ll see how I prepare the minky trim so it’s easier to sew, attach the trim to the Hat, sew and shape the point, turn the Hat right side out, and add the pom-pom.
One thing I especially like about this project is how quickly it starts looking like a Santa hat once the trim is attached.
A Few Tips Before You Start
Minky is cute and fluffy, but those layers can shift while you’re sewing.
I like to baste the folded trim close to the edge before attaching it to the Hat. This keeps the layers together and makes the next step easier.
At the tip of the Hat, trimming away some of the extra seam allowance also helps reduce bulk.
Once the Hat is turned right side out, a blunt turning tool can help gently shape the point.
These are small steps, but they can make the project easier to sew.
One Pattern, Two Looks
The Jolly Santa Hat may be the holiday star, but you don’t have to put the pattern away when Christmas is over.
Use different fabrics for the hat and trim to turn the same pattern into a Sleep Hat.

The construction stays the same. The fabric does the work of giving each hat its own look.
