Life is full of surprises

We planned to have the next adventure up sooner but our sewing machine had other plans.

Without any signs or warning she decided to stop working.

So she spent 3-4 weeks at the locate repair shop getting a new circuit board and tune up.

She’s back & better than ever. And our sewing adventure continues with another pattern from the Dolly Dolly: First Doll Coordinate Recipe book.

We decided to give the Tank Top, Pumpkin Pants and Socks a try (page 58). Their step-by-step images looked easy enough – despite the patterns’ 3.5 skill level rating.

The Adventure Continues

Using only Google translator, we were able to complete all 3 patterns (yay!)

Compared to the one piece dress, the tank top, pumpkin pants and socks were easier for us to understand & sew.

Is It Beginner Friendly?

We found the patterns to be surprisingly beginner friendly. But that’s not to say that a beginner won’t run into issues.

Like with any new skill or pattern, there’s going to be a period of frustration and confusion.

And these patterns are no different.

We made the:

  • tank top 3 times ( we had to learn how to correctly clip & fold the seams. And how to make the incorrect lace we bought work with the top)
    • Takeaway: Make sure the lace is wide enough
  • pants 2 times (during the 1st round we had the incorrect elastic and lace for the hems. The 2nd time we used the right elastic)
    • Takeaway: Ensure you have the right size of elastic and
  • socks 2 times (remember, the correct seam allowance is important, even with socks)
    • Takeaway: Mark your fabric well

We experienced frustration & confusion. But kept at it until we understood the techniques used.

Our pieces aren’t perfect but we learned a lot and for us, that’s more important than being perfect.

And Momoko is as happy as peach with her 3 piece outfit 😉

Dolly Insider’s Skill Level Rating: Beginner
