Welcome to the 1st Dolly Sewing Crush!

For a whole month we will shine a light on one doll designer from Japan by sewing one of their patterns each week for a total of 4 projects.

We hope it will encourage you to make clothes for your dolls.

Our Sewing Motto:

Seeing Is Believing

We understand how intimidating it feels to open a Japanese pattern book and be overwhelmed by the language.

We aim to transform doll sewing doubt into unbreakable confidence one project at a time because Seeing Is Believing.

By seeing a completed project, you’ll begin to believe that it’s possible for you to create an outfit too!

We’re not special, so if we can do it, you can too.

Our process of sewing tiny won’t be pretty but we place greater value on progress vs perfection.

And we want you to experience the same excitement of conquering doll sewing projects.

Dolly Sewing Crush: Momolita Project #1

The 1st project we’re reviewing is the One Piece Hooded Dress by Momoko Komori from Dolly Dolly vol 36.

Momoko Komori also know as Momolita, is a doll dress designer from Japan who hosts sewing workshops.

She collaborates with doll companies to offer collectors a piece of her unique style.

Neo Blythe Ultimate Tour and Pullip Laura are some of the works she’s created.

The Review

What fabric was used? Lightweight Marled Rib Knit Sweater

How were the directions? It was challenging because there were no images that went along with the text

What was used to translate the directions? Google translate and Jisho

Were there any design changes? No

What was enjoyable about this pattern? We love how playful the outfit is. Each time we see the monster’s googly eyes we can’t help but smile. And we also like the comfy style. We are jealous of Ruruko because she looks sooo cozy.

Any tricky areas? The hood caused confusion, it took 4 tries to attach it to the dress correctly. Since we used a lightweight knit, it was also a challenge keeping the fabric pieces evenly aligned while sewing

What skill level would we rate this project? Intermediate Friendly

Skill Level: 3 Sewing Pins

Project Overview: This pattern was challenging for us as beginner tiny sewists but it is doable. Be patient and enjoy the process. When you start to feel frustrated, take a break and pick it up again
