Last month, I tackled the 2nd project from Basics of Making Doll Clothes by Taeko Sekiguchi. The 1st project was a skirt, and this time it’s a tank top!
It’s the book you all voted for us to sew from. And honestly, I was a little hesitant to start the 2nd project.
It was my first time sewing a doll shirt, and I wasn’t sure how things would go.
The tulle facing was a bit of a challenge at first, but once I understood how it worked, everything came together smoothly.

To make things easier, I increased the size of the tulle/facing piece to give myself some wiggle room in case my sewing went a little off; that small change really helped.
Another thing that made a big difference was marking the seam allowance, especially around the neckline and armholes.
Those concave curves were a challenge for me since I don’t sew them often, especially not in such a tiny scale!
But now I know exactly what I need to practice more.
In the end, I’m really happy with how things turned out. It’s an easy project once you understand how the facing is handled.
After that, it’s all smooth sailing. I’m already thinking about making more tank tops for my dolls in different fabrics and colors.
