UPDATED: May 5, 2020 Winner Announced Below (near entry box)

Well I can’t believe it, our Salon de Monbon journey is coming to an end.

Momoko and I hope you’ve enjoyed the looks and are inspired to start your own sewing quest.

But before we start, I want to let you know there will be no Sewing Crush on Wednesday April 29, 2020.

During the 5th Wednesday of the month, take this time to enter the giveaway if you haven’t or catch up on any Dolly Sewing Crush you may have missed.

Okay, are you ready to see the final project?

Awesome!

This Month’s Sewing Motto: Mistakes Are The Path Towards Success

Dolly Sewing Crush: Salon de Monbon Project #4

For the final Salon de Monbon Project, we are featuring a chic Tippet.

You can find this accessory on page 118 in Doll’s Closet Seasons.

In 16 steps, your dolly will have a Tippet to cover their shoulder.

The directions for the Tippet are written in Japanese and include images so you can visually see the step by step instructions.

Is it winter yet?

Your Layout For Sewing Success

Here is your blueprint for making the Tippet:

The Tippet

  • Sew the fur & fabric right sides together
    • Leaving an opening
  • Cut excess fabric
    • Leave enough fabric near the opening
  • Clip & cut corners
  • Flip it right side out
  • Whip stitch the opening close
  • Attach closures

Voilà, the Tippet is done!

Fluorite borrows Momoko’s outfit

Final Thoughts:

This pattern was easy and straightforward.

The only hiccup we had was cutting the sparse mohair (it was the only fur like material we had on hand).

At the time we didn’t realize that you have to be careful when cutting fabric with long fibers, known as fabric with a high pile.

It was later that we discovered a cutting method that won’t cause the fur edges to look like they received a bad haircut.

Our Tippet is not as full as it could be but Momoko & Fluorite don’t seem to mind. They appreciate the effort that went into making it. 🙂

Happy dolly equals a happy life.

Hiya, hope to see you again. This was fun!

The tippet is adorable! It finishes off Momoko’s new look perfectly.
That’s a great tip for cutting high-pile fabric. I’ve got some faux fur I’ve been scared to cut into ’cause I didn’t want those raggedy edges. Now maybe I can actually make something instead of just admiring it. 🤣
I’ll be waiting for Dolly Sewing Crush to return in May! Meanwhile, hope you enjoy your break next week!

      Hey River,

Oh I’m so glad to hear that the tippet gave you the encouragement to cut faux fur.

I never would’ve thought that you have to be careful cutting fur.

With each new project a new world just keeps opening up. 🙂

Thanks for joining us during the Salon de Monbon projects

And thank you, I took a few days off and I’m anxious to get started on May’s projects

I’m always amazed by these teeny tiny things. When I try to sew something like that, my own fingers just keep getting in the way.

The tippet looks great with the coat, so warm and snuggly!
