If you’re new to Nendoroid Dolls, you might be wondering what makes them special.
They look a lot like Nendoroids, but they have a cuteness and personality all their own.
This guide will help you understand what they are, how they work, and why so many collectors enjoy them.

What Are Nendoroid Dolls?
Nendoroid Dolls are a type of figure made by Good Smile Company (GSC). They use the same big heads and cute faces as Nendoroids, but the bodies are different.
The body is shaped like a small doll, giving you more ways to enjoy their cuteness through outfits and poses. Because of this, Nendo Dolls feel more like tiny characters you can style, move, and enjoy in different scenes.
Nendoroid vs Nendoroid Doll (Key Differences)
Even though they share the same head design, Nendoroid Dolls have some key differences that make them unique.
Bodies & Posing
- Nendoroid Dolls: Full doll bodies with articulated joints (elbows, knees, ankles), which let you pose them in a wide variety of dynamic ways
- Nendoroids: Figure-style bodies with fewer moving parts. Poses rely mostly on swappable parts rather than bending joints
This means Nendo Dolls are more interactive, giving you more ways to express personality through poses.
Clothes & Personalization
- Nendoroid Dolls: Wear real fabric outfits that can be layered, mixed, and matched. Many collectors also swap shoes, wigs, and faceplates. Some releases even include alternate expressions
- Nendoroids: Usually come with plastic outfits and a few interchangeable faceplates or accessories
The extra customization lets Nendo Dolls showcase personality and style in ways that Nendoroids can’t.
Play & Creative Possibilities
- Nendoroid Dolls: Offer a more hands-on, creative experience. You can dress them, layer clothing, swap hands and shoes, and mix outfits to build entire wardrobes. Many collectors also enjoy making tiny clothes or props to expand their world
- Nendoroids: Great for display and quick photos, with personality expressed through faceplates and props
In short, Nendoroid Dolls provide more room for creative enjoyment, styling, and customization.

Props like the Nendo Doll skateboard and the Nendoroid Doll stand let you set up dynamic poses, build scenes, or create cute photos.
Collecting & Display
- Nendoroid Dolls: Feel more like traditional dolls. Many collectors create seasonal setups, themed displays, or dollhouse-style scenes. The mix-and-match clothing adds another layer to the collecting experience
- Nendoroids: Perfect for lining up on shelves as part of a collection, highlighting favorite characters in dynamic poses
Which One Should You Collect?
- Choose Nendoroid Dolls if you want more movement, outfit changes, and hands-on styling
- Choose Nendoroids if you enjoy display figures with quick, easy setup
Many collectors start with Nendoroids and later discover Nendoroid Dolls when they want:
- more posing freedom
- real fabric clothing
- deeper customization options
Both are part of the same Nendoroid world, but they offer very different collecting experiences.

How Tall Are Nendoroid Dolls?
Nendoroid Dolls stand at about 10 cm (approximately 4 inches) tall, and that’s just the body.
The height doesn’t include the head, which varies slightly by character design.
They’re slightly taller than Nendoroids because of their doll-like bodies.
In 2022, Good Smile Company added something fun: the Nendoroid Doll Height Adjustment Set.
When you replace the arms and legs with the parts in the set, your doll gains about 1 cm in height.
It’s a small change, but it gives you a bit more flexibility in customizing their look and proportions.
What Comes in the Box?
A typical full-set Nendo Doll includes:
- A figure (doll body)
- A character head (usually with one faceplate, though some releases include alternate expressions)
- A fabric outfit
- Shoes
- Extra hands
- A stand

Some releases are outfit sets only, and others are bodies only, so what you get depends on the product.

- They wear real outfits
- They work great for photos
- They cover many anime and game characters
- They offer mix-and-match fun

What Outfits and Accessories Can They Use?
Nendo Dolls wear real fabric clothing, which makes styling them a lot of fun.

Tops, dresses, skirts, pants, jackets, hats, socks, and shoes can all be swapped to give your doll a fresh look.
Outfits like the Nendoroid Diner Outfit let you style your doll for fun themed scenes, while accessories like the Nendoroid More Container help you keep extra pieces organized.

Nendoroid Dolls are a fun mix of figures and dolls.
They’re a great entry into the hobby, cute, poseable, and fun to personalize. They’re wonderful on their own, but even better when they become part of a collection.
This guide was designed to help you navigate the world of Nendoroid dolls. I hope it gave you a good starting point on your collecting journey.
Which Nendo Doll would you love to add to your shelf? Let us know in the comments.
Wonderful guide! I really appreciate that you put together a comprehensive guide about Nendoroid Dolls. Back when I was getting into the doll hobby, this is exactly the sort of guide I searched for endlessly, but there weren’t that many available back then. Even today, when a new doll line is launched, guides like this make learning so much easier. Great work, Tatyana!
If I were to bring home a Nendoroid Doll next year, I’d like either a version of Hatsune Miku (her Loungewear and Hanami versions are super cute!) or Teatime Bianca & Charlie. A few little friends to cheer up my desk would be great~ (^u^)
Which Nendoroid Doll do you have your eye on?
Hi River,
I’m so thrilled you liked the guide! It really means a lot.
I was going back and forth about making it, so I’m happy at least a couple of people (including me!) find it helpful.
My goal is to create similar guides for all the lines we discuss here at The Dolly Insider. It’ll take time and juggling between new releases and our own projects, but I think we can make it happen if I plan and prioritize each line.
My Nendo Doll addiction calmed down a bit this year while I was busy bringing Luka home (finally paid for her this month!).
But now that the “no new dolls” period is over, my Nendo Doll wish list has gone way up.
The ones at the top are Bring it On Len and Rin, and the Persona 5 Nendoroid Doll.
I almost grabbed the Genesis version, but passed on it. I’m excited to see that Good Smile will make one P5R. It will make up for Genesis ver. I missed.
And then Good Smile recently revealed Emily in a cute picnic outfit. I want to bring her home. I really liked the original version of her, but I wasn’t into Nendo dolls back then.
I love keeping 1–2 Nendoroid dolls on my desk. More would be great, but paperwork and projects take up all the space.
Miku and Bianca & Charlie are super tempting. I totally get why they caught your eye!
If there’s a guide you’d like to see next, or tips you wish you’d known when you started collecting, let me know. I’m always looking for ways to make collecting more fun and easier for everyone.
As always, it’s a pleasure chatting with you, River. Thanks so much for your support! Wishing you a wonderful holiday season.
Talk soon,
Tatyana
Hi Tatyana!
Hope you had a great holiday!
Happy New Year!
And congrats on getting Luka!! She’s gorgeous, and she’ll be a great addition to your crew!
Yes, the guide was very helpful!
It does take time to put together a quality guide like this, doesn’t it? Balancing writing guides with your other projects is a great plan.
For tips I wish I’d known when I was getting started collecting. . . . I think you’ve actually covered a lot of them already! Things like basic doll care, tips for displaying them, and how to purchase from overseas brands. I think those topics are very helpful for new collectors. 🎶 It might be nice to gather them all on a Guides page, so they’re easy to find.
For doll brands, lately I’m interested in Momoko and Ruruko dolls. I’d love to learn more about them.
Ooh, I can see why Emily caught your eye! She’s adorable. So are the Bring It On! Rin and Len and P5R. Good luck bringing them home!
Thanks for the great year of dolly adventures! May next year be full of dolly goodness too~
River
Hi River,
Happy New Year!
Thank you so much for sharing those ideas.
They’re really helpful, and I love the idea of gathering them into one guide for new collectors.
That’s such a great suggestion.
I truly appreciate you taking the time to comment, cheer me on, and share thoughtful ideas.
Your support means more to me than I can put into words.
I’m looking forward to another year of dolly goodness and sharing it all with you.
