What Are the After School Akihabara Girls?
The series follows Moe, a shy 16-year-old, and her outgoing friend Natsuki as they spend time together in Akihabara after school.
Their world later expands to include Natsuki’s younger sister Nanami, mysterious singer Alna, aspiring singer Akira, Mariko, and Mariko’s longtime friend Ruri.
Some releases also explore different points in the characters’ lives.
Mariko, for example, appears both as a shy transfer student and as Moe’s teacher ten years later.
Unlike Dollfie Dream dolls based on anime, games, or other licensed characters, the After School Akihabara Girls were created by VOLKS specifically for its Dollfie Dream line.
Each release added another piece to the story through its character profile, outfit theme, and connection to the other characters.
Meet the After School Akihabara Girls
The series includes seven characters whose stories connect through friendship, family, music, school, and their time in Akihabara.
Moe – a shy 16-year-old high school student with a small group of friends. She often meets Natsuki in Akihabara after school and sometimes gets pulled into her friend’s interest in anime and games.
Natsuki – an outgoing friend and Nanami’s older sister. She’s social, confident, and enjoys introducing Moe to more of Akihabara’s otaku culture.
Alna – a singer who performs at the “Angel’s Singing Voice” live house. Little is known about her past, adding an air of mystery to her stage appearances.
Akira – moved to Akihabara and has a new dream after hearing a singer perform at a live house. Her story later brings her onstage with Alna in Akira 2nd Ver.
Mariko – Moe’s quiet Japanese teacher with a secret interest in anime and cosplay. Other releases travel ten years into her past, showing her as a shy transfer student and enjoying her first Tokyo summer festival with Ruri.
Nanami – Natsuki’s energetic younger sister. She enjoys karaoke and arcades, but unlike Natsuki, she isn’t interested in anime or games. Nanami spends her weekends practicing guitar with a band.
Ruri – Mariko’s longtime friend and a shop manager. She was the first friend young Mariko made after moving to Tokyo and accompanied Mariko to her first Tokyo summer festival.
Dollfie Dream Body Types In This Series
The After School Akihabara Girls do not all use the same Dollfie Dream body. 3 body families appear throughout the series:
- DD: Moe, Natsuki, and Ruri
- DDS: Akira, Mariko, and Nanami
- DDdy: Alna
The body and bust size can also change between versions of the same character.
For example, the 2023 Moe and Natsuki dolls use the DD-f³ body, while their earlier releases use older DD bodies.
These differences are important to consider when buying replacement clothing.
An outfit made for one body or bust size may not fit another, so check the doll’s details before buying clothes.
Where to Find After School Akihabara Girls Dolls
The After School Akihabara Girls are no longer part of VOLKS’ regular lineup. Most releases are now found through secondary-market sellers.
You can search for After School Akihabara Girls dolls on eBay. Searching with the character’s full name and version can help narrow the results.
What to Check Before Buying
Some listings include the complete release, while others may offer the head, body, wig, outfit, or accessories separately. Before purchasing, check:
- Which outfit pieces and accessories are included
- The condition of the wig and shoes
- The body and joint condition
- Any stains or color transfer on the vinyl
- If the original box and paperwork are included
The individual release articles list the items that originally came with each doll, making it easier to check a seller’s listing.
